“The typography layout follows an intuitive logic which allows the consumer to take notice of the origin, the weight, and the concentration indication of the cocoa. We had teamed up with an illustrator Cécile Gariépy in order to pay hommage to the noble and meticulous work of the growers. The logo and the visual identity take their inspiration from the fragments of a broken chocolate bar. The colour and the composition of the packaging give the product an unique and pronounced energy. Book Review: MCHAP Book One

MCHAP Book One: The Americas edited by Fabrizio Gallanti
IITAC Press/Actar, 2016
Hardcover, 444 pages

In October 2014 the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) announced the winners of the inaugural Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP), with Álvaro Siza's Iberê Camargo Foundation in Porto Alegre, Brazil, winning for 2000-2008 and Herzog & de Meuron's 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, Florida, winning for 2009-2013. By the time this book documenting the prize and its seven finalists came out last year, the winner of the 2014-15 MCHAP was already announced: SANAA's Grace Farms in New Canaan, Connecticut. MCHAP recognizes the best building realized in the previous two-year period (minus the inaugural) in North and South America, such that it functions like an Americas equivalent of the EU Prize – Mies Award.

Even though it documents the winners and finalists, this book isn't really about them. This is clear from the introductory essays, by Dutch architect and IIT dean Wiel Arets and editor Fabrizio Gallanti. The former is about cities and technological developments on the two continents and "the creation of a new dream," while the latter explores the fluid ideas and meanings of "America" – nary a mention of the prize is found. Furthermore, if one were to read the book from cover to cover, they wouldn't learn which projects won until page 417. Between the introduction and back matter, with its listing of the winners, finalists, outstanding, and nominees, are seven chapters thematically organized around the seven finalists. Herzog & de Meuron's Florida parking garage sets up the theme of mobility and infrastructure, for instance, and Siza's project is the spark for exploring "the role of travel and cultural exchange for designers," per Gallanti's essay.

Each of the seven chapters is structured the same way across roughly fifty pages: a short introduction, a long essay, photos of the finalist and an interview with the architect, and an "anthology" of articles, essays, photo essays, and book excerpts related to the theme. With this structure, there's no need to read the book cover to cover – or all of it for that matter. Instead, people can dip into projects or themes that are of interest, taking in lessons both new and old that paint a picture of the evolving Americas. It's a tactic that is more rewarding than a straightforward presentation of the MCHAP finalists, though there is one omission that hopefully future editions will balance out: Canada. The United States, Latin America, and South America are well represented in the projects, contributions, and anthologies, but there's very little touching on our overlooked neighbor to the north.

Elite Heritage Estate Community
The Wilmar Residence is one of Vancouver’s most important grand estate houses. Built in 1925 for Willard Kitchen, the director of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, it was designed in the Tudor Revival style by the prominent architectural firm of Benzie Bow. All of Kitchen’s children and grandchildren were raised in the house. His youngest daughter, Gladys, became one of Vancouver’s first female barristers. Her daughter, Judith Jardine, a well-known supporter of the city’s arts and heritage communities, lived in the house her whole life. She was the last heir to the property and passed away in 2006. Consequently, the estate has remained remarkably unaltered from its original construction. Due to its storied history and good condition, the Wilmar Residence is listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register.

To preserve the Wilmar Residence and coach house, Coromandel Properties, in partnership with Stuart Howard Architects, is redeveloping the estate to maintain its economic viability. The mansion will undergo extensive restoration and transformation into a grand duplex. Five new infill homes will be constructed with design elements, massing, and scale to fit contextually with the existing Wilmar Residence. They will be sited to give the impression of a series of cottages surrounding a multi-use garden access space with a driveway meandering through the middle. Wilmar’s landscaping is an important aesthetic feature. Historical plant material will be salvaged and reused where practical. New landscaping will filter views of the infills and complement the existing buildings.

Wilmar is currently in pre-construction. Subscribe above to our VIP list to ensure priority notification of availability, pricing, and other updates for this rare opportunity.

Floor Plans for Wilmar Residences

The upper floor of the restored coach house will be available as a shared amenity space to supplement the private rec rooms in each home. Residents will also enjoy the tranquility of Wilmar’s heavily-landscaped grounds, either from the comfort of their own private patios or when strolling the historical trail system along the escarpment at the southern end of the property.

Parking and Storage
Each residence will have its own private, enclosed garage with additional room in the common driveway for uncovered visitor parking. Ample storage space is available in all homes, as well as individual laundry rooms.

Maintenance Fees at Wilmar Residences
TBA.

Developer Team for Wilmar Residences
Coromandel Properties is a commercial and multi-residential property developer that works with clients and communities to create inspired environments. They combine the latest advances in technology, while being sensitive to the unique nature of each location and the responsible use of resources.

Stuart Howard Architects have been chosen to design the redevelopment of Wilmar Estate. They are committed to creating high-quality, cost-effective, innovative design solutions for their clients. Over the years, the firm has been involved in many building types with a strong emphasis on residential buildings, and heritage restoration and rehabilitation. Various members of the firm are multiple award winners in residential design.

Coromandel has retained Toronto-based Cecconi Simone Inc. to design Wilmar’s luxurious interiors. Since 1982, the multi-disciplinary interior-design practice has met with continued success, creating award-winning interiors for the retail, corporate, hospitality, and residential sectors in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Cecconi Simone’s wide-ranging work reflects a “whole design” philosophy in which a cross-pollination of design experience leads to a deeper understanding of how people live their lives and the design needs that arise from those lifestyles.

SkyTrak Releases v2.6 of their Launch Monitor App

SkyTrak, LLC Releases v2.6 of the Revolutionary SkyTrak™ Launch Monitor App Featuring a New Bag Mapping Feature and More
_____________________________________________________________________________

Winston-Salem, NC, April 26, 2017 – SkyTrak LLC, a joint venture of SkyGolf and SportTrak, is pleased to announce the release of v2.6 of the SkyTrak app, including bag mapping, overlaid dispersion circles on the practice range, and a camera offset feature.

“We have a passion for helping golfers improve their game,” said Andy Allen, SportTrak Managing Director of Golf. “In v2.6, we’ve expanded our game improvement section to include a new bag mapping feature that helps golfers get the right clubs in their bag.”

With this feature, users can keep track of the number of clubs, the number of shots with each club, the number of shots they want to keep, and the target gap distance and gap tolerance between each club. Just like the Skills Assessment, everything is easily set up from the start so users can focus on hitting their best shots during practice sessions. The software provides step by step directions until every club has been hit. Afterwards, key stats are reviewed, including the average distance of each club.

In addition to bag mapping, v2.6 allows users to overlay dispersion circles on the practice range. The color of these circles is tied to the tracer color of each club and they are created once 3 shots are recorded with the same club. This information can also be viewed in the shot history table.

Another feature of v2.6 is the ability to offset the camera in the newly revised settings menu under camera views. What this means is that users can now adjust where the ball launches on the screen. This is particularly useful when hitting into a projection screen or in a tight space without room to impact the center of the screen.

“With all of this information, golfers can focus on the strengths and weaknesses of their game,” added Allen. “And when their practice session is complete, they can play golf with some of the great simulation software we offer.”

SkyTrak is a revolutionary development in launch monitor technology, offering a complete practice, play and entertainment system for golf at home. It delivers commercial quality ball flight simulations that reflect a golfer’s actual performance for game improvement and entertainment at a price far below alternatives. Golfers can also experience and test their skills on some of the world’s most famous 18-hole courses with their own clubs at their own pace through integrations with golf simulators including WGT Golf, Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf, The Golf Club Game and TruGolf.

While entertaining, SkyTrak is a serious tool that accurately reflects the golfer’s actual skill level and shot results to provide year-round practice, play and game improvement without ever leaving home. Combined with an App and iPad or compatible PC, the Wi-Fi enabled SkyTrak captures shot information over a vivid 3D practice range and virtual golf course. SkyTrak also offers various challenges for engaging practice such as Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Targets, along with Shot History Tables, Performance by Club, and helpful data screens. It’s easy to use, compact, totally portable with no wires required, and highly accurate, so improvements the golfer sees in their swing at home are improvements they can take to the course.

SkyTrak users also have the option to upload their practice and play data to the SkyGolf 360 cloud service for storage, analysis and sharing with friends via the new SkyGolf 360 App, and enjoy the benefits of being part of the fast-growing online community of passionate golfers via integration with popular social networks. The ability to share with friends will make the interactive platform the centerpiece of a consumer’s in-home golf practice and entertainment experience.
